If you love words, there are plenty of treats in Tunbridge Wells: discover workshops, readings and author talks held in the town's libraries, halls, theatres and bookshops. And if it's the volumes themselves that appeal, the town's famous antiquarian bookshops are sure to please. Take a walk down Chapel Place to inspect the choice at Hall's and Oxfam, go round the corner to The Secondhand Bookshop on Neville Street, and then drop into the Pantiles Papertole and Bookshop. There are also regular bookfairs where serious collectors seeking treasures mingle with casual browsers hunting bargains.

Tunbridge Wells has a vibrant and eclectic music scene, from classical and jazz, to rock, folk and blues. The town boasts some of the top venues in the south-east – such as The Forum, that champions indie bands, The Grey Lady, an evocative jazz and soul club, and The Trinity, that hosts a bewildering array of national and international musical talent across all genres. Major tours are also catered for, at the Assembly Hall, a renowned 650 seat concert auditorium.
