"All women become like their mothers. That is their tragedy. No man does. That's his."
TTC present Oscar Wilde's ever-popular comedy of manners in which two wooing men assume alter egos depending on their company.
Aristocratic Londoner Algernon falls in love with Cecily Cardew, the ward of Jack Worthing, who is himself in love with Algernon's cousin Gwendolen. But both Gwendolen and Cecily have fallen for Ernest. Interfering aunt Lady Bracknell adds to the air of confusion, while Wilde's dialogue is as deliciously witty as when this piece was first performed over a century ago. In the words of the playwright himself, it's “a trivial comedy for serious people!"
The play will be performed inside the Theatre, whilst Trinity’s gardens will be transformed into a 'Victorian Summer Garden'. Pimms and high tea will be served from one hour before each performance, or bring your own pre-show picnic to enjoy in this lovely setting. Go to event details |
