Alfred Hitchcock’s Blackmail is a landmark in British cinema. Released in June 1929, it was hailed as ‘the first British all-talkie film’. But the film was also released in a silent version, and to this day some critics consider this version a superior work

In the midst of various music acts the Assembly Hall has Grease (15-19 May), this production from TWODS will be excellent so worth checking out. This is followed (from 29 May) by Joe Pasquale as the hapless Frank Spencer in Some Mother Do 'Ave 'Em. If you hanker for a bit of slapstick this may be for you.
